Hydraulic Performance of Geotextile Sand Containers for Coastal Defenses

چکیده

Laboratory experiments were performed in the wave flume of Laboratorio di Idraulica e Costruzioni Marittime Università Politecnica delle Marche (Ancona, Italy) to study hydrodynamic performance coastal protection structures made a new type geotextile sand containers (GSCs). Such are used as softer and flexible alternatives traditional hard defenses concrete or rubble mound material. The GSC can also be temporary protections during winter period. physical model reproduced two main configurations: former one, GSCs revetments with three different slopes. In latter applied make detached submerged breakwaters submergences berm widths. geometric scale models was 1:10, weight each prototype 5 t. material characteristics by using Reynolds Froude similarity criteria, respectively. Reflection coefficients hydraulic stability behaviors for revetments, well transmission piling-up amount breakwaters, obtained.

Retention performance of geotextile containers confining geomaterials

The design of geotextile containers for dewatering applications typically requires hydraulic compatibility between the geotextile and the confined fill material. Ideally, a geotextile container must successfully retain the solid phase of the fill material and must not be clogged during the dewatering process. This becomes difficult to achieve when the fill material is fine grained and the pore ...

Dewatering Fly Ash Slurries Using Geotextile Containers

The design of geotextile containers for dewatering applications typically requires good retention of the confined fill material solids. This becomes difficult to achieve when the fill material is fine grained and the pore openings are large. Furthermore, the proper retention becomes critical if the confined material is contaminated. Fly ash is one of the fine-grained geomaterials that exhibit b...

Field Performance of Geotextile Reinforced Sludge Caps

Geosynthetic reinforced capping of highwater content waste materials is becoming an efficient and economic way of dealing with the confinement of the contaminants. To define the filtration performance of sludge-geotextile systems and investigate their durability, ten sludge lagoon test cells were constructed using of a lightweight fill, i.e. a wood chip/soil mixture over different geotextiles. ...

Sand Sealing of Coastal Structures

DISCUSSION: Rubblemound coastal structures contain voids between individual armor units. Structure voids maximize turbulent wave energy dissipation, but also allow passage of water and sediment. The volume of sediment passing through some jetties and terminal groins can be substantial, resulting in increased channel shoaling, higher maintenance costs, and significant loss of beach material. Mos...

Filtration Performance of Two-Layer Geotextile Systems

Nonwoven geotextiles are commonly used in filtration applications. For some applications, however, a nonwoven geotextile filter may not have the required mechanical properties to withstand deformations, and an additional woven geotextile is usually employed in design. While reinforcement is an important function expected from these two-layer geotextile systems, filtration is another function th...
